Rasam | చారు | రసం


Rasam is a South Indian traditional recipe usually served with rice. It can also be served as hot soup. This traditional recipe is all about boiling herbs and spices in Tamarind Juice and Tomato.

Rasam, it has many health benefits. It is very good for digestive system. 😍

Mix this Rasam with hot rice and enjoy the flavorful and tasty meal. Definitely, you will crave for more. 😋😋💜

INGREDIENTS:

Tamarind: Small Lemon Size
Tomato: 1
Turmeric Powder: 1/4tsp
Red Chili Powder: 1/4tsp (Optional)
Pepper Powder: 1/4tsp
Carom (Ajwain) Seeds: 1/4tsp
Green Chilis: 2
Curry Leaves
Coriander stems: a few optional
Carom (Ajwain) Leaf: Optional
Coriander Leaves
Salt

For Tadka:

Oil / Ghee: 2tsp
Mustard Seeds: 1/2tsp
Cumin Seeds (Jeera): 1/2tsp
Fenugreek (Methi) Seeds: 1/4tsp
Carom (Ajwain) Seeds: 1/4tsp
Red Chilis: 2
Garlic: 5-6 crushed
Currly Leaves
Asafoetida (Hing): 2-3 pinches




METHOD:

1. Take tamarind in a bowl and add some water to soak. Keep it aside for at least 5 minutes. 


2. Sqeeze juice from soaked tamarind by adding water to it. Add a glass of water and squeeze juice and pour it to another vessel without pulp. Do this process for 2-3 times until all the juice extracted from the tamarind. 


3. Take a tomato and add roughly chopped pieces into tamarind juice. Crush and mix it well along with Tamarind juice.



4. Now, check the sour taste and add sufficient water to fill the vessel.


5. Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder. You can skip adding red chili powder to reduce the spice. 


6. Add pepper powder, carom seeds (ajwain, Vaamu)


7. Add Green Chilis.


8. Add curry leaves with stem. This will give you a nice flavor to Rasam. 


9. Coriander stems & leaves and Ajwain Leaf. Adding Ajwain leaf to rasam is completely optional as it won't be available at all places. However, the leaf has many herbal properties. Adding it to Rasam, will enhance the flavor as well as adds health benefits.



All these ingredients have many herbal properties which helps for a healthy digestive system.
So, if possible, try to add all the herbs to get the flavorful Rasam. Definitely, you would love the taste & and flavor.

6. Add Salt as per the taste.


7. Bring this Rasam to boil on low medium flame. Don't put the flame on high as it will bubble up and overflow.


8. Turn off the flame once Rasam is well mixed with all the herbs and spices. 


9. Take a tadka pan and heat 2tsp of oil or Ghee.


10. Add all tadka ingredients one by one and saute well.


11. Pour this tadka on Rasam and garnish with coriander leaves.




11. Transfer Rasam to a serving bowl and serve hot. 


12. You can have this Rasam with Rice or you can drink it as a hot soup. Healthy & Tasty.
