FISH GRAVY WITH TAMARIND (CHEPALA PULUSU)


This Fish gravy is sour and spicy in taste. Rice is a right combination to have this.
Mix gravy with rice and eat. Enjoy your meals with this delicious Fish Gravy. You will crave to have more and more. The magic in the taste is, You won't feel full even though you had more. 😋😋😍

INGREDIENTS:

Fish: 1kg

For Onion Paste:


Onions :2 roughly cut
Tomatoes: 2 -3 roughly cut
Mustard Seeds: 2tbsp
Coriander Seeds: 1tbsp
Pepper Seeds: 1/4tsp
Cinnamon: 2inch piece
Cloves: 10-12
Cumin Seeds: 1/4tsp
To make Coconut Paste:

Coconut:1/4cup
Cashew Nuts: 2tsp
Poppy Seeds: 1/4tsp (Optional)

To make Gravy:
Green Chilis: 5-6
Tamarind: lemon size
Ginger Garlic Paste: 1tsp
Red chili powder:1/2tsp
Turmeric Powder: 1/4tsp
Salt:1/2tsp
Curry Leaves: 10-12
Sugar: 1/2tsp
Oil
Coriander Leaves
METHOD:
1. Clean fish with lemon, salt, turmeric powder.
2. Marinate fish with red chili powder, salt and turmeric powder.


3. Make a fine paste with onions, tomatoes, mustard seeds, Coriander Seeds, cumin seeds, cloves & Cinnamon
4. Make a fine paste of Coconut, Cashew nuts & Poppy Seeds and keep aside.
5. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces on both sides for 2-3 minutes (This will help you to avoid breakage while cooking gravy) and keep aside
6. In the same pan and oil add green Chilis, curry leaves and onion paste. Sauté it well on medium flame. Stir occasionally.
7. Now, add red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and cook it on medium flame until the raw smell goes away.
8.Once the onion paste gets thickened and oil separates from it, add Tamarind juice of two cups. Balance the taste while adding some water. Cook the gravy on high flame.
9. Add sugar, ginger garlic paste and mix well.
10.  Add grounded Coconut paste and mix well.
11. Cook the gravy on high flame. Check the sour taste, if it is more sour, then balance the taste by adding salt & sugar.
12. Once the gravy gets start thick, add all the fish pieces and put the lid. Cook it on Medium flame for 10mins
13. Put the flame low and check the gravy consistency.
14. Now, garnish with coriander leaves and transfer it to a serving bowl.
15. Serve hot with rice.
